Hyun Jin Kim
Cellist Hyun-Jin Kim, a native of South Korea, is currently a respected cello instructor in the Portland area. She studied with Steven Doan and Pamela Frame at the Eastman School of Music where she earned her Masters in Cello Performance. Hyun-Jin has performed in master classes with such distinguished artists as Yo-Yo Ma, Hans Jorgen Jensen, Jean Barr, David Ying, Rosemary Elliott and David Finckel, and has been coached by the Emerson, Ying, and Kumho-Asiana string quartets, and the American Chamber Players. Hyun-Jin has performed as principal cellist with the Brockport Symphony and Avon Symphony Orchestra in Rochester, New York, and is a founding member of the Pacifica Trio and Asiana String Quartet in Portland. She has performed in numerous concerts in New York and the Portland area including the Sherman Clay Moe's "Art for Ears" concert series.
Hyun-Jin, currently maintaining a private cello studio in Northwest Portland, has been teaching for more than decade. Her students have succeeded in competitions, such as the OSAA State competition, OCS competition, and OMTA Ensemble competition. Numerous students have also won the Young Artists competitions and performed with the orchestras, such as the JCO, BSO, Willamette Falls Symphony, PYP, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
